First Day of School Chalkboard Art Signs

First Day of School Chalkboard Art Sign

So far every year I have hand drawn some first day of school chalkboard signs for my kids.  You can see past ones I have done HERE, and HERE.

It is fun to try out different designs on the chalkboard and to make different signs for each child.   This has worked for me so far because my two daughters have started school on different days.  I will have to figure out something different for next year when both my girls will be starting school at the same time.

After I made my daughter’s first day of second grade sign, I had a space after the word GRADE so I put a little weird squiggle.  That stupid squiggle bugs me so bad.  Now I wish I would have thought to put the year like I did in my younger daughter’s chalkboard sign.

We are off to a good start of school this year! Last year my oldest was nervous about everything and this year she is all smiles.   My youngest is so happy that two of the girls in her class have pretty names: Pearl and Julie (I am sure she thinks it is “Jewel-y”).   She also did report that she has the longest hair in the class.  So it looks like things are going pretty grand for her as well.   Fingers crossed that things continue going well!

Chalkboard Place Cards

Chalkboard Place Cards

At the beginning of every school year, the elementary school that my kids attend does a carnival with a big bake sale.  Since I love dessert, it is my favorite stop at the carnival.  The only problem that I have is that it is usually really busy and you don’t have a chance to ask the workers what each dessert it.  So you guess and pick one that looks good and hope that you like it.  Now, imagine if there was no guessing?!

School Bake Sale IdeasI made these chalkboard place cards for a Christmas party last year.  They were easy to make and only required chalkboard vinyl, chalk and cardstock.  They are reusable (who doesn’t love that!) and add a super cute touch to a bake sale, lemonade stand, party food table or could even be used as actual place cards for guests names.

I used the Eye of Newt Halloween Label  for the chalkboard vinyl and then stuck that to a rectangle of white cardstock.   I then glued the white cardstock  place card onto a grey cardstock place card for extra stability.

I also made some chalkboard tags.  They are simply made with a white tag and then a rectangle piece of chalkboard vinyl going over the bottom.

You can see that the chalkboard doesn’t wipe completely clean after each use.  I have used these place cards and tags three times now and you can still see a little remnant of the last ones but not enough to make the new bake sale food signs unreadable.

I like to use a thin chalkboard pencil to get a smaller and more legible script on the chalkboard.  I have the Dritz Quilting Chalk Cartridge Set and it works well.

Now wouldn’t these chalkboard place cards be an excellent edition to your next school bake sale!

A is for Antlers

A is for Antlers
In honor of National Craft Month I am taking part in a series put on by Stephanie from Crafting in the Rain called Craft Month A-Z.  Stephanie has gotten together with a bunch of awesome bloggers and each of those bloggers will share a craft tutorial based on a letter of the alphabet.  I chose A because A is Awesome and Amazing and I already had a tutorial in mind that I have been wanting to share.  About a year ago I pinned this image to my Chalkboard Pinterest board.  I thought it was pretty neat! I pinned it and there it sat, collecting digital dust.   It wasn’t until my son started to become enthralled with deer that I remembered the chalkboard antler print.  His birthday was coming up and it was the perfect time to try and make some chalkboard antler art.
