DIY Gold Index Cards, Free Silhouette file & Giveaway!

DIY Gold Index Cards

Phew. That title was a mouthful! There is plenty of fun stuff going on in this post though so make sure and get your free Silhouette file to make these DIY Gold index cards and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom too!

First I am going to share with you how I made these gold index cards for my daughters baptism.  I wanted something for the guests to write messsages to my daughter after her baptism and I wanted it to coordinate with the rest of the things that I had made.  I wanted to make some gold notecards and new my Silhouette CAMEO would come to my rescue.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 7.53.28 PM

This is what the file looks like.  It is made for a 12 x 12  sheet of paper.  I color coded it for easy cutting.  First, using a gold sketch pen or gold marker, have your Silhouette cut the red lines (under advanced cutting click cut by line color and then pick red).  Once your design has been sketched out, change out the pen / marker for your cutting blade and have your Silhouette cut the blue lines.  That is all. Think of the index card or note card possibilities! If you want to make your top line a different color, you could even do that too.

Make Your own Gold note cards

You could try printing the lines on your printer first and putting registration marks on the paper but then you wouldn’t get that beautiful shine from the gold sketch pens!

Gold Foil Fall Art & Silhouette Promotion

Gold Foil Autumn Wall ArtA few weeks ago I tried out the Silhouette brand printable gold foil for the first time.  I didn’t print anything on it, just cut it out.  I loved it! It has adhesive on the backside and it is super shiny! I used it to make  borders on some invitations that I had made and so I had some spots on each sheet that I wanted to put to use.

Silhouette PixScan MatI put the foil on my PixScan mat (which I didn’t think I would like as much as I do!) and opened up my shape. I used the Autumn shape and cut it out on two different pieces of my used gold foil.  Once I had the two Autumn words cut out I needed to get them onto my white card stock.  I wanted them to be centered and straight so I made a paper guide.

Paper Guide

I taped the guide onto my white card stock and then laid the gold letters down by hand.  I took the guide and was left with a perfect gold foil Autumn art.

4 Easy Happy Birthday Gift Tags

This post is brought to you by Kolette Hall. Mason Jar Birthday Gift Idea

Everything looks cuter in a miniature form right? Well add a mason jar and the cute factor is off the charts!  I made a chocolate brownie caramel heath bar trifle (whew, that was a mouthful!) for my mother’s birthday and thought I would make it work double duty for another birthday gift that I wanted to give.

Mason Jar Gift Topper_Happy Birthday

I started with a small mason jar.  I cut a circular piece of double sided adhesive cardstock and centered it on my jar lid.  I cut out the Happy Birthday to You- Hand Written Phrase by Kolette Hall in gold vinyl.  In order to get it placed just right on my lid, I put my happy birthday shape on transfer paper and then laid it non-sticky side down over the negative space of the circle I cut out.  I traced the circle around it and then cut out the circle.  I laid my transfer paper circle onto the adhesive cardstock circle and transfered the vinyl on.

I also added a little black and white polka dot washi tape around the lid.

Mason Jar Chocoalte Trifle Gift Idea

I also have 3 more easy Happy Birthday gift ideas with cute tags and packaging to give you some more inspiration.  I have a little stash of happy birthday tags that I go to when I need to package up a cute birthday gift.  The tags use shapes from Kolette Hall.

Birthday Gift Idea with tagFirst up I used the Arrow Words- Birthday shape to cut out this Happy Birthday arrow on adhesive cardstock.  I added that to a rounded tag and made a DIY origami paper bow to finish it off.

These next two both use the same tag from my stockpile.  It uses the Happy Birthday Layered Script Phrase  .  To make them, I just used the print and cut feature.

Cookie Birthday Gift Packaging Idea

For this gift idea, I cut out a paper carrier and filled it with cookies  I grabbed a birthday tag from my stash and tied it all up with a bow.

DIY No-Sew Ice Cream Cozy_Birthday Gift

Lastly I made a no-sew ice cream cozy out of a cut off sleeve from my daughters dress.  I had already cut the sleeves off since the dress was a little bigger than her size.   I grabbed my scissors and cut off the wrist cuff portion.  I made sure to not cut into the wrist part since I wanted that tube to stay intact.  I stretched it over the ice cream (or in this case Almond Dream Bites) and added my print and cut tag.  Instant no-sew ice cream cozy with a darling birthday wish!

Chalk Paint Pumpkins with Fabric Leaves

chalk paint pumpkins with fabric leaves

Last year I pinned this image of a beautiful fall mantel.  It did not have the usual fall colors but rather light green pumpkins , a green wreath and just a touch of white.   There was something so clean and yet so soothing about it.  I thought that this year I wanted to bring in a similar color scheme to my early fall mantel.   I had some pumpkins that I had purchased about 7 years ago that needed a little makeover.

DIY Chalk Paint Pumpkins with Silhouette Fabric LeavesThey were a yellowish white color and had accumulated their fair share of scuffs and dents over the years.   The first thing I did was to paint them a bright white using some Americana chalk paint.   I started off using a regular sponge brush but ended up buying a spouncer brush (bought mine from Walmart for $3) which I liked much better.

silhouette fabric pumpkin leaf

To make the leaf, I used the leaf from the 3d pumpkin paper basket by Lori Whitlock.  I wanted to make the stem of the leaf longer so that I could wrap it around my pumpkin stem. To do so I made a small rectangle and a small circle and positioned them by the original leaf circle stem thing.  I wanted to have a circle at the end so that I could have a good spot to put my hot glue.  I welded the leaf, rectangle and circle together.  I double clicked the shape so that I could edit the points.  I went through and deleted the points that were out of place.  I then cut the shape out of fabric that I had ironed onto a piece of Silhouette brand clean cut interfacing.  I wrapped each fabric leaf around the pumpkin stems and hot glued the little circle on the end of the leaf stem onto the back of each leaf.

white chalk paint pumpkins _fall decorI thought it would be neat if I was able to take the fabric leaf off of the pumpkins and put on a new color if I wanted to later on.  I love the look of all the pumpkins lined up on my mantel!
