Stovetop Dutch Oven Beans

stovetop dutch oven beansAhhh summertime.  The smell of the barbeque in the warm evening air.  That smell invokes memories of family reunions.  It is funny to me how back when I was a kid I never paid much attention to the food, yet to this day eating foods from my childhood bring back floods of memories.  I wonder if it will be the same way for my children.  This recipe for Stovetop Dutch Oven Beans is from my mother.  It is easy to make and would be a great side dish to bring to a BBQ but I have also made it as the main course during cooler days and it is still filling. The beans are made on a stove top and can be thrown together quickly with canned beans from the pantry.  They are not made in a dutch oven but are reminiscent of a dutch oven taste without all the work of making them in the dutch oven.

Stovetop Dutch Oven Beans

1 1lb Hamburger

1/2 lb bacon

1 can Black Beans

1 can Pinto Beans

1 can Kidney Beans

1 can Great Northern White Beans

1 can Bushes Original Baked Beans

3/4 Cup Ketchup

3/4 Cup Brown Sugar

3 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce

3 Tbs White Vinegar

Directions:

Brown and drain the hamburger meat.  Crisp up the bacon in a separate pan and drain.  Resist the urge to  brown the hamburger and the bacon together.  I have tried that twice with failed results.  You can also saute an onion and throw it in if you want.  I am not a huge onion fan so I left it out.  Combine browned hamburger, crispy bacon, and all ingredients in a large pot and simmer for 30 minutes or until desired consistency.

      Hi Judith! I would say this makes about 6-8 servings when used as a main dish. As a side dish, probably double that.
