Are you a pillow lover? Me? I am a wannabe pillow lover. I have a few pillows that I really like and the rest are just meh. I do think it is a fun way to change up your home decor for the seasons though so I set off to change that. With fall approaching, I was looking around for inspiration for some cute fall pillows when what do you know, I came up with an idea of my own! It is simple (which I love) and looks like a fall pillow but could also be used other times of the year. Introducing, the DIY fringe pillow.
I started out with an old pillow case. It was the color I wanted but had a butterfly design on it that I wasn’t too fond of. I had some coordinating cream knit fabric that I cut the length of the pillow. My strips were three inches wide. I unpicked two sides of the pillow case so that I could sew the strips on it without sewing the pillowcase shut. Starting at the bottom, I pinned and then sewed on my strips. When I got them all on, I noticed that the butterfly was still showing through so I added more strips (not pictured). Once the strips of knit were all sewn on, I sewed the sides of the pillow back up. Then I took a pair of scissors to the fabric strips and started snipping them so they were fringed. I obviously didn’t snip them all the way to the top. The fringe cuts weren’t perfect but that was fine with me. It gave the pillow some character.
I am really glad I added those extra layers of fringe! It makes the pillow fuller. I made the pillow during half time of a football game so that shows you how long it took. Not too bad. So now I have pillows on one chair and nothing on the couch or any other chairs. Maybe next year…
