How to keep a live Christmas tree from falling over. This trick will put the twinkle back into your holiday tree decorating! One of my favorite Christmas traditions is going up to the mountains and cutting down our own Christmas tree. [Read more…]
At the beginning of every school year, the elementary school that my kids attend does a carnival with a big bake sale. Since I love dessert, it is my favorite stop at the carnival. The only problem that I have is that it is usually really busy and you don’t have a chance to ask the workers what each dessert it. So you guess and pick one that looks good and hope that you like it. Now, imagine if there was no guessing?!
I made these chalkboard place cards for a Christmas party last year. They were easy to make and only required chalkboard vinyl, chalk and cardstock. They are reusable (who doesn’t love that!) and add a super cute touch to a bake sale, lemonade stand, party food table or could even be used as actual place cards for guests names.
I used the Eye of Newt Halloween Label for the chalkboard vinyl and then stuck that to a rectangle of white cardstock. I then glued the white cardstock place card onto a grey cardstock place card for extra stability.
I also made some chalkboard tags. They are simply made with a white tag and then a rectangle piece of chalkboard vinyl going over the bottom.
You can see that the chalkboard doesn’t wipe completely clean after each use. I have used these place cards and tags three times now and you can still see a little remnant of the last ones but not enough to make the new bake sale food signs unreadable.
I like to use a thin chalkboard pencil to get a smaller and more legible script on the chalkboard. I have the Dritz Quilting Chalk Cartridge Set and it works well.
Now wouldn’t these chalkboard place cards be an excellent edition to your next school bake sale!

As part of the Stuffed Puppy Dog Birthday Party that I threw for my five year old daughter, we dressed up our “build-a-puppies” with clay dog tags and golden toilet paper crowns. I made the crowns beforehand but the kids each made their own clay dog tag. [Read more…]

We just got back from a family vacation that included a long road trip to and from our destination. Like 10 hours long each way. That is an eternity to kids and my kids even said that the driving days were the longest days of their lives- so dramatic! I have done some previous posts on travel tips with kids and I have some more coming up in the next few days including sharing my first travel tip today! When you are in the car for so long with a diaper wearing baby and fast food leftovers scattered about, you start to get some less than pleasant smells marinating in you car. [Read more…]
One of my absolute favorite colors and paper types to use is kraft paper. The neutral color of it lends itself nicely as a great backdrop that you can build upon. For the last few years I have been wrapping all my Christmas presents in kraft colored wrapping paper and then embellishing them. I have put together some easy gift wrap ideas to use this Christmas and throughout the year! [Read more…]
